If you have successfully installed the Dinkey drivers but the LED on the dongle is not lit, or if Setupdrv or the Windows New Hardware Wizard failed during driver installation, the first step is to try a full driver reinstall. This procedure is outlined below:
- Remove all dongles.
- Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Enter an administrator password if prompted.
- Using this administrator command prompt, run
setupdrv /ufull
- Reboot (important!).
- Run
setupdrv
again by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator, entering an administrator password if prompted. If setupdrv fails, stop at this point and contact Microcosm or your distributor with the full details of any error messages displayed. - If setupdrv was successful, attach a dongle and allow the operating system to detect the dongle and start the New Hardware Wizard. Select No, not this time if the wizard wants to connect to Windows Update and Search (recommended) or Install the software automatically (recommended) in response to where to find the drivers.
For advanced users only. Follow the steps below only if all of the following are true:
- You followed the steps above.
- Setupdrv ran successfully.
- The New Hardware Wizard failed with one of these two error messages - "The system cannot find the file specified" or "Access denied".
You should be very careful editing the registry of your computer. If you are unsure about following these instructions, please contact Microcosm or your distributor for further assistance.
- Remove all dongles, run
setupdrv /ufull
and reboot the machine again as described above. - Open an administrator command prompt as described above. Using this command prompt, run
regedit
to open the Registry Editor with administrator privileges. - Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{98702ED8-2400-4081-97B5-A401E0416ABE} using the tree view on the left. In this view right-click the key and select Permissions...
- Under Group or user names select Everyone. If Everyone is not there, click the Add... button, enter "everyone" in the white text box, click Check Names and check that Everyone is underlined, then click OK.
- With Everyone selected, check the Allow box for Full Control. Then click Advanced and check both check boxes on the window that opens. Click OK, and select Yes if a "Do you wish to continue?" message is shown. Click OK on the permissions dialog to return to the main registry editor window.
Repeat these steps for the following keys:
32-bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_096e&Pid_0003
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBKey64-bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_096e&Pid_0003
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DDUSBKey
